WEEKEND GETAWAY TO GALENA

Recently, Tyler & I took a Saturday road trip to the charming historic town of Galena, IL.  We really had so much fun exploring the area & getting away from the hustle & bustle of Chicago for a day.  We can’t wait to rent a big van & go back with friends in the near future!

Before reaching the town itself, the landscape started to change & we were met with hilly terrain & winding roads.  The views of the rolling acres with all the cows, horses, & red barns below was so picturesque!

Once there, we made our way into the historic downtown district, warmed up with a beer, then started our way through the quaint shops on Main Street.  Our favorite was Galena Canning Company which is split into two different stores, across the street from each other.  I’m fairly certain Tyler was in heaven at their quirky hot sauce shop that was covered wall to wall with different varieties & samplings, trying every one. ; )  Across the street, I picked up some of their Lemon Caper Pesto which is seriously SO good & I also highly recommend getting their Traditional Italian Dipping Oil.

After exploring the downtown, we crossed the bridge over into Grant Park which is named after former president Ulysses S. Grant.  My mother is a Grant &, fun fact, Ulysses is a great uncle of mine.  It was so interesting seeing where he resided (wish I had inherited his cute brick house somehow) & learning a bit more about him.  I also had my new plaid scarf to keep me warm while braving the chillier weather & I have added all my current favorites below.  I find myself wearing this with everything!

Let me know if you have other suggestions for a midwest getaway, we would love to know!

This is a beautiful post and Galena looks amazing. I had no idea you were related to him, how fun!! I wish you had inherited that brick house as well 😉 Hoping we get to go together some time.
